Fiction Recommendations

Greenwich Park by Katherine Faulkner

It is a brilliant psychological thriller which explores impending motherhood, unreliable friendships and the high price of keeping secrets.

Utterly addictive – it has a fantastic twist at the end.

It’s a debut novel.

My Sister, the Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite

Interesting & enjoyable book.

Reading about a different culture and family ties.

The Paris Library by Janet Skeslien Charles

Great if you like books and love libraries and the untold support they give to people.

Story told in two time zones which is great and keeps you reading.

The Pull of the Stars by Emma Donoghue

Set in Ireland just after first world war, it highlights the struggles faced in an understaffed hospital as the Flu epidemic rages.

We share the desperation and frustrations of Nurse Julia Powers as she tries to keep expectant mothers and their unborn babies safe as they are quarantined together.

Can’t help but feel a modern day comparison with Covid 19.

The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde

An off-the-wall fantasy exploring what really happens when the characters in Jane Eyre aren’t interacting with the reader.

If you enjoy that, there are more books in the Thursday Next series shining a slightly skewed spotlight on the adventures of Miss Havisham (from Great Expectations) and other literary characters.

Dark Matter by Blake Crouch

Difficult to describe this one, it’s like nothing else I’ve read. It’s a hard SF tale based around the “many worlds” hypothesis that arises from quantum theory.

It’s a fast-paced adventure story about someone desperately trying to understand what’s happening to him, in a similar vein to Jason Bourne.

Mother Loves Me by Abby Davies

It is a psychological thriller which is totally gripping and full of suspense!

Crescent City by Sarah J Maas

Epic fantasy, epic love story, overcoming corrupt government & a whole host of side characters you love.
